Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

However, Marseille fired two times late to take a shock advantage. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
