This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

We present a test for those in enduring partnerships who appreciate horror films: Sit down with your loved one and stream Together. The independent film success of 2025 recently had its streaming debut on the Hulu service. On the surface, it could look like conventional physical horror, but inside Together lies a profound meditation about the ways we decide to love one another.

An Introductory Film Exploring The Nuances of Love

Together marks the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for ten years. Married in actuality in 2017, the actors bring a unique chemistry to their roles, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a committed partnership.

The narrative starts when Tim and Millie move from the urban environment to the rural area for her career. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, of course, but that’s largely where the tropes conclude. Together evolves into as much a examination of mental states of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their country house, a violent storm occurs, and the protagonists discover an underground cave. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a mysterious influence begins influencing the couple. This force compels a otherworldly bond between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The whole movie is a methodically building fright fest, blending moments of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and genuinely funny exchanges (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). The director skillfully blends these components neatly and delivers them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate numerous complexities to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is suffering due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to focus on anything other than his failing musical ambitions gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and distant from his network of friends. He fears the idea of totally forfeiting his sense of self in his partner. This fear is intensified by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in Together avoids making one partner or the other the clear bad guy.

The couple grapple with the kind of problems that arise in any relationship over a long period. At their core, they continue to care for one another. They share moments of joy, comfort one another, and open up at times. But beneath it all, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their bond.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these fears of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to a partner, the allegory does not come across as hamfisted or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that single viewers have understood the narrative as a powerful case for remaining unattached. On the other hand, certain partners experiencing tension found that the film actually helped them resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own response could function as a telling indicator of how you perceive partnership. Will the conclusion inspire anxiety and horror, or a positive outlook on love? Will you recognize your own traits in either protagonist and scream at your TV, or simply turn to your significant other and state, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can experience at this very moment.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu at present.
