Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
