UK light heavyweight Buatsi earned a win yet disappointing beginning to life under recent management with a points victory over Parker in the Manchester arena.

The Olympic medal winner's punch output appeared to earn him a majority decision in a tight ten-round bout at the boxing arena.

But the challenger landed significant shots, connecting with powerful single shots in a match where the approaches failed to mesh, with frequent clinching disrupting the contest.

The officials scored it 96-94 for to the winner, with the third a 95-95 draw.

"It wasn't my greatest showing but what defines champions? They win," Buatsi stated in the arena as he was faced boos from the spectators.

The British fighter got back to winning after his initial pro loss - an epic battle with his previous opponent in February - to claim a 20th career victory.

Some ringside observers thought the challenger, 31, deserved the victory but the contender suffered the second setback of his 28-match professional journey.

His career development has stalled in recent times through promotional disputes and considerable time of lack of fights.

Once tipped as the next star of UK boxing, he now finds himself trying to achieve expectations - perhaps in what feels like a last chance - under new promotional backing.

He started carefully, with the two boxers prepared to be aggressive in a calculated initial rounds.

The challenger, whose only previous defeat came at the lower weight class against John Ryder in 2022 after breaking his hand during the bout, was participating in his second appearance at light-heavyweight.

By the middle rounds, the underdog had kept it close, making life awkward for the favorite, who worked behind a tight guard to barely take the more effective rounds.

The crowd's patience diminished because of constant clinching, with the challenger slipping to the canvas various instances during close exchanges.

The underdog finished the stronger, but several stanzas were hard to judge. However, former world champion Carl Frampton - commentating on the broadcast network - had it significantly in favor for Parker, scoring for Buatsi just only one stanza.

The victor progresses, but with the caliber of power puncher Benavidez, and Russian champion Dmitry Bivol leading the category, the road to world glory - based on this performance - still seems difficult.

Hatton Memorial Fuels Local Rivalry Battle

In the secondary fight, Lyndon Arthur beat Bradley Rea by divided decision in a excellent all-Manchester battle to win the European light heavyweight title.

The stadium grew hushed for a profoundly moving memorial before the fight as 10 bells sounded in remembrance of the city's native Ricky Hatton, who succumbed at age 46 in recently.

It was the initial significant broadcast boxing event in the urban center since the passing of Hatton. As the concluding sound ended, the stillness transitioned to a chant of "there's just one Hatton".

The competition within the ring reflected the sentiment. The eventual winner was knocked down by a left hook directly to the chin in the initial stage, rising shakily to his footing on the count of eight.

But the red-colored equipment of the fighter soon advanced again. From the other corner, Rea - in competitive blue - was marked up soon, noticeable damage forming under his face as the pair traded powerful shots.

Rea, twenty-seven, delivered effective strikes but Arthur, 34, responded in kind with effective uppercuts as the pace hardly diminished over twelve rounds.

Arthur edged the result with judges scorecards of even score, close margin and clearer margin, but the two athletes were determined and courageous, all the qualities their idol the legend stood for.
